Basis for statements
To help you establishing a dialogue with the Center, the following is a short presentation of the Center’s foundation which reflects our statements, answers, and comments:
We prefer to qualify stories
We are, naturally, available, but we are not hungering for being quoted – just for being used. Therefore, we are, for example, happy to contribute with our knowledge in ways that help qualify the stories.
No ready-made solutions
The Center’s point of departure is the conditions to which practitioners in the building industry are subjected. Based on empirical studies, we offer balanced interpretations of practice, which are meant to enable the individual practitioner to make informed decisions. Therefore, the knowledge that we generate is not ready-made proposals for what should be done differently in the industry.
Inspiration for new action possibilities
Our evidence-based knowledge is not intended to replace or render superfluous the experience-based knowledge of the sector, but we hope that it will inspire actors in the building industry to interpret experiences in new ways and to see new action possibilities. All this in the pursuit of better ways of coping with the many challenges and difficulties that you are facing in practice.
We are not arbiters of taste
For too many years the critique of practice has been based on an ideal image of what organizing and managing the building process imply. This kind of criticism risks prolonging and strengthening the industry’s problems, because it does not explore the underlying conditions and real challenges. Therefore we are not acting as arbiters of taste.
Novel understandings of management
Learning about and understanding the underlying conditions are vital for being able to incorporate the latter into one’s own practice. We contribute with novel understandings of management – understandings that accept the inherent complexity and uncertainty of the building process, and which we hope will motivate your to act both innovatively and realistically.
